How to Create Stunning Instagram Grid Banners
A grid banner is a single large photo split into multiple square tiles that, when posted in order, create a panoramic mosaic across your Instagram profile. It's one of the most eye-catching ways to make your profile stand out.
What Is a Grid Banner?
Instead of posting one photo at a time, you split a wide or tall image into 3, 6, or 9 equal square tiles. When posted to your Instagram feed in the correct order, the tiles align to form one large image across your profile grid.
Grid Layout Options
3 × 1 Banner (3 tiles)
Splits your image into 3 horizontal tiles. Creates a clean panoramic strip across your profile. Best for landscape photos and wide panoramas.
Each tile: 1080 × 1080 px · Total canvas: 3240 × 1080 px
3 × 2 Grid (6 tiles)
Creates a 3-wide by 2-tall grid. Perfect for product showcases, campaign launches, or feature highlights that need more visual space.
Each tile: 1080 × 1080 px · Total canvas: 3240 × 2160 px
3 × 3 Giant Grid (9 tiles)
The maximum grid size. Covers your entire profile with one massive image. Use this for major announcements, portfolio pieces, or brand launches.
Each tile: 1080 × 1080 px · Total canvas: 3240 × 3240 px
Step-by-Step: How to Create a Grid Banner
- Choose your photo: Use a high-resolution landscape or square photo. The higher the resolution, the sharper each tile will be after splitting.
- Open the Grid Splitter: Go to FreeWebResizer.com and click the "Split into Grid" button.
- Select your grid size: Choose 3×1 for a banner, 3×2 for a medium grid, or 3×3 for a giant grid.
- Upload your photo: Drag and drop your image into the upload area.
- Download the ZIP: Click "Split & Download" to get a ZIP file with numbered tiles (grid_part_01.jpg, grid_part_02.jpg, etc.).
- Post in order on Instagram: Upload tile 01 first, then 02, then 03, and so on. Instagram displays tiles left-to-right, top-to-bottom in your profile grid.
Tips for Best Results
- Use high-resolution source images: At least 3240px wide for a 3-tile grid, 3240×3240 for a 3×3 grid
- Avoid text near tile edges: Text that spans across tiles may be hard to read when viewed as individual squares
- Check your profile preview: After posting, visit your profile to verify the grid aligns correctly
- Keep consistent spacing: Don't post other photos between grid tiles — it will break the mosaic
- Use the "pad" mode: If your photo isn't perfectly square, the tool adds borders to maintain the correct aspect ratio
