Understanding story & reel dimensions
Instagram Stories and Reels use a strict 9:16 aspect ratio at 1080×1920 pixels. Standard photos get stretched or zoomed, cutting off text, faces, or key elements. Horizontal photos in particular look blurry in Stories because Instagram auto-zooms them to fill the height — padding them to 1080×1920 keeps them full-resolution.
